DUCKS CELEBRATE 60 YEARS OF SOFTBALL AND 10 YEARS AT THE JANE IN 2026
Oregon is celebrating 60 years of softball at Oregon and 10 seasons at Jane Sanders Stadium. Dr. Becky L. Sisley was hired by the University of Oregon in the mid-1960s and was the first softball coach at Oregon when that program was housed within the Physical Education Department. In 1975-76 she was integral to Oregon's implementation of Title IX as softball and other sports moved into the Athletic Department for the first time and subsequently coached Oregon to the AIAW World Series in 1976. The Ducks' first on-campus facility - called Oregon Field - opened in 1979. It was located where the hammer throw area at Hayward Field currently resides. As the Ducks' track and field programs expanded, Howe Field, the former home of the baseball program, was retrofitted for softball and the team moved in prior to the 1987 season. Two seasons later, the Ducks made their first NCAA Women's College World Series appearance. Oregon started becoming a regular NCAA Tournament participant in the late 1990s, and then became a mainstay at the Women's College World Series in the mid-2010's. It was during this decade that football alum Bob Sanders and his family came forth with a donation that funded the construction of Jane Sanders Stadium, which was named after Bob's wife. In all, the Sanders Family donated more that $16 million toward the construction of the new facility, with significant contributions also coming from Sisley and others. "The Jane" opened to a sold out stadium on March 24, 2016, as the Ducks defeated Stanford, 2-0. In 10 seasons, Oregon is 149-52 (.741) at The Jane.
