Ducks Sweep OSU for 12th Win in a Row
04/22/26 | Softball
EUGENE, Ore. — Elise Sokolsky threw a complete game seven-hitter to lead No. 12 Oregon to its 12th win in a row, a 7-2 decision against Oregon State Wednesday at Jane Sanders Stadium. With the win, the Ducks swept the 2026 series against the Beavers.
Â
"These guys have been winning, and they don't want to lose," said coach Melyssa Lombardi. "That's a rivalry game. We don't want two, we want to sweep again. We don't want the series; we want the sweep.
Â
"What I like is the things that they're talking about and what they want to accomplish, and then they are setting their minds to it," said Lombardi. "They go out and they're getting it. This was great. I thought this was a big test for us to see how we were going to handle it. I thought they crushed it."
Â
Sokolsky struck out seven, walked none and allowed two runs – both unearned – in her longest outing since a complete-game win at Oregon State on April 2, 2025.
Â
"I think it was awesome to take on that strain, since my pitching staff took on strain for me earlier in the season," said Sokolsky, who returned to the circle over the weekend against Washington after being sidelined for 10 games due to injury. "That was a huge motivator for me. It's always fun to be able to pitch in a rivalry game. You know, getting to play Oregon State, so it's super fun."
Â
The Ducks (36-9) scored seven runs on 11 hits that included a homer and a double by Elon Butler, triples from Amari Harper and Ayanna Shaw and doubles by Emma Cox and Stefini Ma'ake.
Â
"They love to play here. We have such a great environment, even tonight, it's a midweek game, and we still had a great crowd," said Lombardi of the 1,928 fans at The Jane on a cool weeknight. "I thought it was really good. We love to play at home and play in front of our fans. I think our team is just in a really good place right now. They're getting hot at the right time, peaking at the right time."
Â
How It Happened: The Ducks jumped out to a 3-0 in the first inning.
Â
Butler led off with her Big Ten leading 17th double of the season. After Harper singled, Cox drove a pitch to the wall in right center field and both runners came around to score. Rylee McCoy then came through with a two-out base hit that scored Cox to give the Ducks a 3-0 lead.
Â
Oregon added three more runs in the sixth inning. Harper tripled with one out and scored on a throwing error that allowed Cox to reach safely. Ma'ake then doubled pinch-runner Regan Legg home for a 5-0 lead.
Â
McCoy singled to advance pinch-runner Elyse Kresho to third and she scored on Taryn Ho's sacrifice fly.
Â
"Another standout today for me was Riley (McCoy)," said Lombardi. "I thought Riley was really good. She had two base hits and an RBI today. You could just see just how much these guys are passing bats."
 Â
After Oregon State (17-30) scored two unearned runs in the top of the sixth that made it 6-2, Butler added an insurance run with her club-best 15th home run of the season.
Â
Notable: Butler's 17th double of the season tied her with Kedre Luschar (2025) and two others for second on the UO single season list. She's just one back of Missy Coe, who holds the record at 18 (1999) … Shaw's second inning triple was her seventh of the season, which is tied for second in program history with Kathy Stahl (1995), one triple behind Janie Takeda's school record of eight (2014) … It was Oregon's first sweep of Oregon State since 2022 … It was also the first time the Ducks swept their Northwest rivals – OSU and Washington – in the same season since 2016 … Wednesday's first pitch was thrown by Duck quarterback Dante Moore and "Shout" was led by football coach Dan Lanning.

Head Coach Melyssa Lombardi on how the team has grown since the last game with OSU in March...
"We were talking about that earlier today, about just how different we look right now compared to when we faced them earlier in the year. I feel this team has grown so much. Our lineup has changed a lot, and I just think we have solidified ourselves. I would say the best way to describe it – on the mound, on defense, and at the plate, I think we've just solidified that and are in a really good spot."
Â
Head Coach Melyssa Lombardi on Dante Moore's first pitch...
"You know what? I thought Dante did an excellent job. I gave him a hard time before the game, like, 'don't just throw it you got to do the thing.' … I thought he threw a great strike. I loved how he came out. I loved how coach Lanning came out for "Shout." You could just see how our student-athletes, our community and even our coaches, we all got each other and are all very supportive of each other. So, I thought that was pretty cool to see tonight."
Â
Pitcher Elise Sokolsky
"It was a lot of fun. To be able to come in today and take strain for the rest of the pitching staff was huge. I know Lyndsey (Grein) has been taking on a long strain for me, so I really wanted to be able to come in and do that for her today. It was really great to see our defense work well today. I felt them behind me the entire game."
