Nielsen, Carter Earn Academic All-America Status

The program now has 71 Academic All-America honors spread among 47 student-athletes.
EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon track and field standouts Wilma Nielsen and Aiden Carter have been named to the 2025-26 College Sports Communications (CSC) Academic All-America Team. Nielsen was a member of the first team while Carter earned third-team honors.
The Oregon track and field program now has 71 Academic All-America certificates among 47 honorees. The all-academic selections were announced last week.
Nielsen was a two-time NCAA Indoor champion this past winter, successfully defending her title in the mile and anchoring the UO women to victory in the distance medley relay. During the indoor campaign, she established a new school record and No. 2 NCAA all-time mile performance of 4:21.04. Nielsen was fourth at 1500 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
The Gothenburg, Sweden, native is now a two-time Academic All-American for Oregon with last year's third-team selection.
Carter was the 2026 Big Ten Indoor champion in the heptathlon and was an NCAA Indoor qualifier for the first time. He capped his standout indoor season with a lifetime best of 5,908 points at the NCAA Indoor Championships, good for the No. 5 spot on the program's all-time list. Carter also established a lifetime best of 7,497 points in the decathlon at Bryan Clay in early April.
Among the requirements needed to, first, become academic all-district performers, student-athletes must carry a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 coupled with a top-50 regional ranking in an individual event, and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
