Nick Reed has been named the GoDucks.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of October 29-November 4th.
DE Nick Reed, a junior lineman from Trabuco Canyon, CA., led the defense in Oregon's win over Arizona State on Saturday. Reed tied his career highs with 3.5 of Oregon's 9 sacks, and 11 tackles, 5.0 of them for a loss. Reed now has 11 sacks and 18.5 TFL's for the season. His performance on Saturday led him to receive the Pac-10 defensive player of the week, giving him two POTW awards in one season.
Reed currently ranks first in the Pac-10 for both total solo sacks (10), and tackles for loss (17). Nationally, Reed currently ranks fourth in sacks per game (1.22), and fourth in tackles for loss per game (2.06).

OREGON ? While onlookers may wait for someone bigger and stronger to come along and displace the stalwart who has played in all 25 games since playing as a true freshman, they underestimate his relentless passion for the game. Exhibits a constant motor and can be counted on to always be in the right place, which contributes to his ability as an outstanding pass rusher. Displays a great work ethic and takes advantage of lessons learned from his first two seasons, while he remains unsurpassed in productivity. Improved his size and strength during the off season and remains as one of the unit’s most consistent linemen. Posted defensive line’s top clean lift (330 lbs.) during winter workouts and runs well, as evidenced by setting a record for players at his position in the shuttle run.
2006 ? Took advantage of injuries along the defensive line to move into the starting lineup for Oregon’s final 10 games, accumulating 26 of his tackles during that span. Team’s second-leading tackler among down linemen (ninth overall) posted a career-high five stops in the regular-season finale at Oregon State in addition to contributing four in the Las Vegas Bowl. Scored tackles for loss vs. Stanford, UCLA, Portland State, Arizona, Oregon State and BYU, which included QB sacks against the Cardinal, Vikings and Cougars. Also blocked a PAT at Washington State in addition to receiving team’s top weekly defensive accolades following his final two regular season games of the year. Named to Pac-10’s second-team academic all-conference unit.
2005 ? Experienced playing time in all 12 games, led by 25 snaps at Arizona. Finished the year with all five of his tackles unassisted, including two stops vs. Montana as well as solo tackles in each of his last two games of the regular season. In addition, posted a quarterback sack at Stanford as well as tackles for loss vs. Montana and Oregon State. Also blocked a punt at Arizona that led to an Oregon score.
