Travis Buck

Former major leaguer Travis Buck is in his first season as director of baseball operations at Oregon. Buck joined the Ducks’ staff after coaching stints at Loyola Marymount (2024-2025), Arizona State (2022-2023) and Boise State (2020). He also spent time coaching with the Boise Hawks in professional baseball and with USA Baseball.
Buck is responsible for coordinating team travel, budget planning, on-campus recruiting and the day-to-day operations of the baseball program. In addition, Buck serves as the liaison between the baseball staff and academic services, athletic communications, marketing, fundraising, ticketing and the training room staff.
At LMU, Buck assisted with hitting and base running while working with the outfielders and serving as the third base coach. The Lions led the West Coast Conference in home runs (82) and stolen bases (124), while finishing second in slugging percentage and third in batting average (.279) and on-base percentage (.386).
Five LMU hitters earned All-WCC honors with infielder Beau Ankeney, catcher Robbie Ayers and catcher/outfielder Nate Savoie claiming first-team accolades. Outfielder Zion Williams was a second-team pick while infielder Cam Hassert earned honor mention recognition. In addition to being a first-team all-league selection, Savoie earned WCC Freshman of the Year honors.
Before coaching at Loyola Marymount, Buck spent two seasons at Arizona State serving as the program’s hitting coach in 2022 and the director of player development and assistant recruiting coordinator in 2023. As hitting coach, Buck helped the Sun Devils finish third in the Pac-12 Conference in batting average (.297) and fourth in slugging percentage (.466).
Six Sun Devil hitters earned All-Pac-12 Conference honors following the season with infielders Nate Baez and Jacob Tobias claiming first-team recognition. Catcher Ryan Campos, infielder Conor Davis and outfielders Joe Lampe and Sean McLain were honorable mention selections.
At Boise State, Buck served as the hitting and outfield coach for the Broncos and also worked as the program’s bench coach, helping elevate the program to its lone season as a program. Outfielder Michael Hicks earned 2020 All-Mountain West honors under Buck’s tutelage in the Broncos.
Prior to his coaching career, Buck spent six seasons in Major League Baseball with the Oakland Athletics (2007-10), Cleveland Indians (2011), and Houston Astros (2012). He played collegiately for Arizona State (2003-05). He also helped lead Team USA to a gold medal in the World University Baseball Championship in 2004.
Buck was named a freshman All-American by both Collegiate Baseball (first team) and Baseball America (second team) in 2003. He was a first-team All-Pac-10 Conference honoree in 2004 and 2005 and an All-College World Series selection in 2005 at Arizona State. He also garnered first-team Pac-10 All-Academic accolades in 2005. He left ASU ranked in the school's career top 10 in at-bats, runs and hits while ranking 15th in batting average at .362.
Buck was initially drafted out of Richland High School in Richland, Wash., by the Seattle Mariners, but instead chose to attend Arizona State. He was then selected in the first round, 36th overall, of the 2005 Major League First-Year Player Draft.
In 2006 he played in the All-Star Futures Game, and was at one point rated by Baseball America as the top prospect in the Oakland Athletics organization.
After retiring from professional baseball, Buck operated TBuck Training in his hometown, training and developing youth baseball players. He has since transferred ownership to pursue a career in college baseball.
He earned a bachelor's degree from Arizona State in 2019.
Buck and his wife Zhanna, have a daughter (Evalina).
