The Oregon athletic department announced the hiring of Kyle Bolton as the new director of speed and performance for the Oregon football program on Dec. 27, 2023.
Bolton comes to Oregon from TCU, where he served for the last two years as the assistant director of football human performance. He has made previous stops at California, Arkansas State, Baker University and Baylor, and was part of the 2023 Bill Walsh Diversity Fellowship with the Los Angeles Rams.
"We are thrilled to welcome Kyle Bolton to our program here at Oregon," head coach Dan Lanning said. "He is well known as one of the very best speed coaches in the game today, and is going to be a tremendous addition to our strength and conditioning staff. Coach Bolton knows how to train student-athletes at a championship level, having been a big part of TCU's run to the national championship in 2022. We are excited about what he brings to our program and can't wait for him to get to Eugene and hit the ground running with our student-athletes."
A wide receiver during his playing days at Baker University, Bolton specializes in speed and performance training of wide receivers, defensive backs and running backs. He is an expert in 1080 Motion, Catapult GPS monitoring, Perch VBT and Functional Range Conditioning (FRC).
"Oregon is a special place, with a culture synonymous with speed and winning," Bolton said. "Being able to be a part of this program is a huge honor. I would like to thank Coach Lanning and Coach Love for putting their trust in me to help continue building this successful program. Go Ducks!"
In Bolton's first season with the program in 2022, TCU went undefeated in the regular season and beat Michigan in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl to reach the CFP national championship game. The Horned Frogs were explosive on offense with Bolton in the fold, leading the nation in plays of 50-plus yards (22) and 60-plus yards (13).
Bolton spent one year as the assistant athletic performance coach at California before going to TCU, after nearly two years as the director of athletics performance at Arkansas State. He got his first job in college football at Baylor in 2016 as an assistant athletics performance coach, before going to Baker to serve as the director of strength and conditioning and wide receivers coach for his alma mater.
A wide receiver for Baker from 2009-12, Bolton went on to play in the Canadian Football League with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Bolton holds certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association and Running Mechanics Professional, and is also FRC and CPR/AED certified.
