Evan VanBecelaere is in his fourth season as director of men’s basketball strength and conditioning.
VanBecelaere came to Oregon after spending two seasons as assistant strength and conditioning coach with the Sacramento Kings. While with that NBA franchise, he assisted in training the Kings’ professional and developmental league players. During his tenure, VanBecelaere worked with notable players DeMarcus Cousins, Zach Randolph, Vince Carter, Buddy Hield and De’Aaron Fox. That training included the implementation of performance technologies such as force plates, velocity-based systems, GPS and isokinetics.
During Evan’s tenure at Oregon he has been a part of two conference titles, one conference tournament title and two Sweet Sixteen appearances. In 2020 when the NCAA tournament was canceled, the Ducks finished 13th in the AP poll. Evan also played a key role in developmental process of NBA draft picks Bol Bol, Payton Pritchard and Chris Duarte. Pritchard and Duarte each give Evan much praise when it comes to their success and development at the University of Oregon.
“I have always been disciplined and hardworking when it came to the game of basketball, but not in the weight room. When Evan came to Oregon I started trusting in the process and plan he had for me which is why I was able to take my game to the next level. Evan showed me discipline and how to get the most out of my body. I felt like I was in better shape than anyone else I faced and was able to stay healthy throughout the year. We stuck to a plan and routine that I still carry with me today in the league.”
VanBecelaere worked with the men’s and women’s basketball programs at Kansas while earning his degree in exercise science in May of 2013, and is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association as well as a certified USA Weightlifting Level 1 coach.
Originally from Pittsburg, Kansas, VanBecelaere and his wife Emily have two sons, Grayson and Crew.
