Tim Wilson is entering his 29th year overall as a strength and conditioning coach, and his third season with the University of Oregon men’s basketball program.
Wilson came to UO after spending 11 seasons in the NBA working with the Milwaukee Bucks. Taking from his experiences of training NBA All-Stars like Ray Allen, Michael Redd, Glenn Robinson, Sam Cassell and many others, Wilson has implemented conditioning programs specific to the development of Oregon basketball players. These programs are designed to help players increase strength, speed, power and endurance.
As strength and conditioning coach at the University of Pittsburgh from 1991-96, Wilson dealt exclusively with the football program. At Pitt, Wilson worked with legendary college football coach Johnny Majors and many student-athletes that went on to lengthy professional careers.
Wilson had two tours of duty as strength coach at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, named the first-ever strength coach for UNLV Athletics in 1981.
At UNLV, he served under Jerry Tarkanian and the UNLV men’s basketball program. Wilson, who trained student-athletes from all sports while with the Runnin’ Rebels, was a part of the 1989-90 National Championship men’s basketball program featuring the likes of Larry Johnson, Stacey Augmon and Greg Anthony.
While with the UNLV football program, Wilson helped to prepare Randall Cunningham and Ickey Woods for futures in the NFL.
Boasting a well-rounded strength and conditioning background, Wilson also spent four years with the Chicago White Sox (1986-89). He trained MLB Hall of Famer Carlton Fisk and current White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen during his time in the Windy City.
Wilson began his career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, the University of Nebraska, where he graduated in 1981 with a degree in exercise science.
Wilson has received certifications from both the NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association) and the NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine). He has a PES and CES certification from the NASM.
Wilson and his wife Teri have one son, Tyler (born 11-19-04). Teri Wilson, who has sung the national anthem at 16 different NBA games, will be performing the anthem at Mac Court this season.
