In 2016-17, the Ducks followed up their 2016 NCAA title with outstanding success in what was supposed to be a "rebuilding year." With five team wins to include the Pac-12 men’s golf championship team title (the first outright since 1959) and the Pac-12 individual champion in Wyndham Clark (the team's first since 1977 and he was also named the Pac-12 Golfer of the Year), Martin and Ellis rallied the squad with the addition of Clark and freshman Norman Xiong (Pac-12 Freshman of the Year). The Ducks secured a third-place finish at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional and at the championships, they earned the No. 5 seed at the NCAA championships match play, the program’s fourth appearance in match play of all time.
In 13 tournaments and 38 rounds, the Ducks averaged 285.13 and never finished lower than fifth all season.
A 2003 graduate of the Oregon, Ellis played under head coach Steve Nosler from 2001-03. In 2001, he earned the Peter Jacobson Award, which is presented to the team's newcomer of the year. In 2003, Ellis had the team's lowest stroke average earning the Sid Milligan Award.
During the 2001 season, Ellis helped the Ducks to a 18th-place finish with a team score of 902 at the NCAA Regionals. Individually, he shot a 224 to finish tied for 49th. In 2003, Ellis shot a 219 to tie for 22nd as the Ducks advanced to the NCAA Championships.
During the 2002-03 season, Ellis shot the individual low round at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, 6-under 65.
The three-time letterwinner and two-time first-team All-Pac-10 recipient listed winning the Duck and Husky Invitationals as his most memorable collegiate golf experiences.
A native of San Jose, Calif., Ellis turned professional in 2003. In 2008 and 2012, he played in the U.S. Open and was named the 2008 Canadian Tour Player of the Year. Throughout his pro career, Ellis won three Canadian Tour tournaments. His best PGA finish was at the 2010 Frys.com Open, where he tied for 24th.

On the PGA Tour, he played nine events with one top 25 finish.
Ellis played 16 Web.com Tour events, finishing a career-best 13th in the Oregon Classic Presented by Kendall Automotive Group in 2006.
