Constantly trying to improve his game, resilient leader and team captain will be looked toward as a steadying influence toward younger players.
2004-05
Struggled a bit with his consistency. Tied for 33rd (75-78-81-234) at The Prestige at PGA West, his only event of the fall. Tied for 53rd at the Duck Invitational and 57th at the Pac-10 Championships in the spring.
2003-04
Played in eight events and was fourth on the team with a 74.7 scoring average. Up-and-down season saw him card two top-20 finishes, but four out of the top 50. Tied for 18th at the Tanagura Cup in Japan (81-71-70-222) where he matched his career low with a 70. Tied for 13th at the Duck Invitational (74-73-74-221). Placed 36th at he Pac-10 Championships (73-73-78-81-305).
2002-03
Former high school quarterback emerged as Oregon’s No. 5 golfer during a spring-long battle with teammate Jimmy White. Had 76.1 stroke average. Played in the final seven events of the year. Two-top 20 finishes, including a tie for eighth at the Oregon Duck Invitational (71-74-70-215). Carded season-low 70 in the final round of the Duck Invitational. Tied for 17th at the Windon Memorial (72-72-76-220). At the NCAA W West est Regional: A counter in two-of-three rounds, including a 75 in the opener. Struggled with 80s in the second and third rounds to finish tied for 111th at 235. Parred final four holes in the last round to help UO advance. At the NCAA Championships: Tied for 142nd at 251. Best day was a second-round 77.
Before Oregon
Named the 2001 Prefontaine Athletic Award winner; an honor given annually to the top athlete from the Coos Bay-North Bend region. Finished seventh in the nation at the 2000 Junior World Championships. Shot rounds of 71-65-76- 72 for a 284 composite. The second round 65 tied the Torrey Pines course record. Solid 2000 summer also included a win at the 2000 OGA State Junior championship, and top-four finishes at the USGA Junior Amateur Qualifier, the OSAA State Junior championship, the Southern Oregon Junior and the Peter Jacobsen Junior tournaments. Multi-sport letterman for North Bend High School. Set a Midwestern League scoring record, winning the 2001 district title with a 71-66-137. Finished third in the state as a sophomore. Won four letters in golf for coach Rich Armstrong.

Born Kyle Howard Johnson, September 28, 1982, in Missoula, Mont. Parents are H. Michael Johnson and Terri Turi. One older sister and one younger sister. Father played football at Montana from 1976-78. Majoring in business administration.
