Courtney Nagle will enter her eighth season leading the Oregon women’s tennis program in 2025-26 after taking over the program on July 20, 2018.
An All-American and four-year letter winner at Oregon (2002-05), Nagle has the Ducks on an upward trajectory and led the Ducks to winning seasons in four of her first five years at the helm and is 73-75 in dual matches.
Nagle arrived at Oregon after spending four seasons as the top assistant for a highly successful North Carolina program, helping lead the Tar Heels to a 122-12 dual match record, three ACC titles and two Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national championships. Considered one of the top assistants in the nation prior to arriving in Eugene, Nagle was named the assistant coach of the year in 2017 by the ITA.
At Oregon (2018-present)
The 2025 spring season saw Oregon reach an ITA national ranking of No. 53 after beginning the season 5-0. In its first season in the Big Ten, freshman Patsy Daughters claimed Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors on Jan. 22, 2025 after helping UO sweep a pair of matches to begin the season. The Ducks picked up a win over No. 73 Nebraska on Senior Day, 4-2, to close the campaign.
In 2024, the Ducks climbed to No. 50 in the ITA national team rankings and won eight of their first 11 matches to begin the spring season. UO finished the dual season with a 10-13 record (1-9 Pac-12). Uxia Martinez Moral posted a team-leading 12 dual singles wins, going 12-5, while Karin Young added 11 dual victories. Martinez Moral was tabbed all-Pac-12 honorable mention for the third straight season.
The 2023 spring season saw Oregon turn in its fourth straight winning season, as the Ducks went 11-10 (4-6 Pac-12) and reached an ITA national ranking as high as No. 40. UO won four of its first five Pac-12 matches and collected ranked wins over No. 43 Arizona (4-1) and No. 50 Utah (4-2). Uxia Martinez Moral paced the Ducks with a 12-3 singles record while teaming up with Sophie Luescher at the top doubles spot, as the pair was ranked as high as 77th in the nation. Martinez Moral went on to earn All-Pac-12 honorable mention accolades and teammate Ares Teixido Garcia was voted Pac-12 Player of the Week - the program's seventh conference weekly award winner and first since the 2021 season (Janice Tjen).
In 2022, Nagle led the Ducks back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2018 in her fourth season at the helm. Oregon went 15-9 and made its ninth all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament, where the Ducks took on Michigan in the opening round. UO finished the season 9-1 at home, improving to 25-5 in the Student Tennis Center over the last three seasons under Nagle.
Under Nagle’s guidance, a pair of freshmen led the way for the Ducks as Sophie Luescher went 20-9 and was named second-team All-Pac-12 while Karin Young joined the team in January and went 17-3 in singles. The Ducks had three other players win at least 15 singles matches, marking the first time a UO team has had at least five players reach the 15-win mark in singles since 2003-04.
In her third year leading the program, Nagle led Oregon to a 13-8 record and 5-5 mark in conference play to finish the year ranked No. 46 in the ITA Rankings. It marked the first time since the 2018 season that the Ducks were ranked in the final ITA Rankings.
The Ducks also made some history in year three under Nagle. Oregon picked up its first ever win over Stanford, beating the No. 25 Cardinal 4-3 at home on Apr. 4, after going on a four-game conference winning streak for the first time since 1999 earlier in the season. During that streak, the Ducks topped Arizona on the road before coming home and knocking off Colorado, Utah and USC in the next three home matches.
Nagle also coached Janice Tjen to ITA All-American recognition and Pac-12 Freshman of the Year honors, after helping her advance to the final four of the NCAA Individual Championship. The Ducks also had two more players earn All-Pac-12 honors, with Rifanty Kahfiani and Uxia Martinez Moral receiving honorable mention recognition.
In 2019-20, Nagle led Oregon to an 8-6 mark during the season that was halted in March due to COVID-19. However, the Ducks surpassed their win total from the previous season while giving Nagle her first career Pac-12 victory with a 4-2 win over Arizona in the season finale. Working with a depleted roster in her first year in 2018-19, Oregon went 7-16 in year one under Nagle.
At North Carolina (2014-18)
In 2018, Nagle helped the Tar Heels to a 28-4 overall record and their third straight ACC championship while also coming away with the ITA Indoor national team title. UNC entered the NCAA Tournament as the No. 1 overall seed before falling to eventual national champion Stanford in the Sweet 16. Nagle also helped guide the duo of Sara Daavettila and Alle Sanford to the semifinals of the NCAA Doubles Championship, a run that included a win over the nation’s No. 1 ranked pair. The Tar Heels finished 2018 with a program-record five all-America selections.
En route to being named the nation’s top assistant by the ITA in 2017, Nagle guided Hayley Carter to her second straight ACC player of the year honor while also helping Daavettila claim the conference freshman of the year award. In addition to repeating as ACC champions, UNC won a school-record 33 dual-matches and claimed the No. 2 overall seed in the NCAA Championships, reaching the quarterfinals.
The Tar Heels were also the No. 2 seed in the 2015 NCAA Tournament before losing to UCLA in the quarterfinals for the third time in four years, and Nagle helped Jamie Loeb to the first NCAA Singles championship in program history. Earlier in the 2015 season, the Tar Heels won their first ITA Indoor national title. UNC went 31-3 in 2016, winning the first of three straight ACC championships and earning the No. 3 overall seed in NCAA play.
At Iowa (2012-14)
Prior to joining the Tar Heels, Nagle spent two seasons (2012-14) as the assistant coach at the University of Iowa. In 2013, she helped the Hawkeyes reach as high as No. 57 in the ITA team rankings and eighth in the Division I Midwest Regional rankings. Nagle earned her first full-time job as an assistant at Colorado during the 2011-12 season.
Playing/Early Coaching Career
Before fully committing to her coaching career, Nagle competed across the globe as a world-ranked tennis professional on the World Tennis Association (WTA) Tour, where she earned World Team Tennis (WTT) Rookie of the Year honors with the Philadelphia Freedoms. She won 15 career professional doubles titles and reached a doubles ranking of No. 97.
Nagle started her playing career at Oregon as a walk-on freshman in 2002 before earning a full athletic scholarship. She helped lead the Ducks to NCAA Tournament appearances in both 2002 and 2004, and in 2003 she reached the semifinals of the NCAA Doubles Tournament in addition to earning a berth to the NCAA Singles Tournament. The first women’s doubles all-American in UO history, Nagle was twice awarded Oregon’s most improved player award. She was also the Oregon Athletics Pride recipient and was named the ITA National Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award winner.
Nagle graduated from UO in 2004 with a degree in human physiology while minoring in Spanish. After her collegiate career, she remained in Eugene becoming the assistant director of the Nike Junior Tennis Camps in 2004, and later joined the Ducks coaching staff in 2005 as a volunteer assistant coach. She moved on to Princeton University from 2007-2009 in the same capacity, before returning to Eugene in 2010 to once again become part of the Ducks’ coaching staff in a volunteer role.
