Justin Fetcho is in his second year as assistant coach with the University of Oregon women’s golf program.
In the fall of 2011, the Ducks climbed as high as No. 12 in the Golfstat rankings and ended the fall ranked No. 18 after an impressive four-event slate. Scoring-wise, its 295.8 team Fall scoring average was nearly four strokes better than its 2010-11 mark (299.64) that broke the former school best by more than a stroke (300.97, 2008-09).
The team's high point was its five-under school record in the Stanford Intercollegiate (282-281-285-848) that broke the former school best by nine strokes. The Ducks also savored their second- and third-best scores ever - 281 (-3) and 282 (-2) - in the event's opening rounds. UO's top finish of the season was a second-place finish at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invite where they shot a total of 892.
Prior to UO, Fetcho worked as an assistant coach at the University of South Florida from 2009-11. In his first full year as an assistant coach in 2010-11, USF tied its best-ever Big East Championships’ placing (fourth), while individual Robby Carl tied for fourth individually in the event. The squad posted its best tournament score in the USF Invitational (880), and twice shot season-best rounds of 293.
He initially joined the staff midway through the 2009-10 season, and worked both seasons with the department’s Academic Enrichment Center. The former three-time Academic All-American served as an academic coach for student-athletes in men’s and women’s golf, volleyball and softball. In 2009-10, the softball team earned the department's Most Improved Team GPA award, and the men's golf squad received the same honor in 2010-11.
On the links as player for the Bulls, he quickly amassed a host of honors in his two seasons from 2005-2007.
As a senior in 2006-07 he logged a team-best 72.2 scoring average, and posted personal best scores for a round (66) and tournament (205). His win in the Sam Hall Invitational (68-71-66 – 205) was one of five tourneys in which he led the team, and he ranked second on four occasions among the team’s 12 events.
As a junior in 2005-06, his best placing was a tie for seventh place in the Adams Cup of Newport. He logged his low tournament score in the Sam Hall Invitational (69-68-75-212), while his low round of 67 came in the BIG EAST / MAC Challenge. At season’s end, he was one of two Bulls to play all 12 events and ended with a 74.8 scoring average.
In the classroom, the Big East Academic All-Star honoree was also tabbed an Academic All-American at USF in 2005-06 and 2006-07.
Before his arrival at the Tampa, Fla., institution, the All-American golfer was a Junior College National Championships runner-up at John A. Logan College, and was also tabbed an Academic All-American.
More recently, he has played professionally on the Hooters Tour in 2008 and '09, and was the runner-up in the Illinois State Open in 2008. He also qualified for a Nationwide event, the 2008 Miccosukee Championship in Miami, Fla.
Fetcho grew up and played high school golf in Southern Illinois at Eldorado High School where he holds the school record and the Illinois High School Association state record with a score of 28 (-7) for nine holes. A 2003 prep state runner-up, he owns the Saline County Country Club course record with his score of 57 (-13).
He earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from USF in 2007, and received an associate’s degree from John A. Logan College in 2005.
