Georgia Southern Defeats Ducks On Final Day Of Madison Invitational

Russell was named to the all-tournament team after scoring 53 points in three matches and leading the Ducks in kills in two of the three contests. Against Rutgers on Friday, Russell posted a career-high eight blocks and finished the match 16 kills.
After two straight matches with four players in double digit kill figures, the Ducks had just one player with 10 or more kills against Georgia Southern. Along with Russell's 12 kills, junior Lauren Westendorf had nine kills and nine points while freshman Sarah Mason finished the match with 6.5 points.
"It was one of those days that we were out of sync," head coach Carl Ferreira said. "The good thing is, we're not going to dwell on it. We're going to move on and get better."
The Ducks wrapped up an 11-day road swing Saturday, playing in two tournaments in two weekends. Russell currently leads the team in kills per game (3.21), kills (61), hitting percentage (.476) and points (75).
"I've just felt really comfortable this season," Russell said. "After a year of being with Jodi I really feel comfortable in our system and Heather has also been a great asset. I feel like as the season goes on we will all continue to feel more and more in sync with the system."
The Ducks play at the University of Colorado Tournament next Saturday and Sunday.
