Nealy Tied for 19th at Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. -- Johnna Nealy shot a 2-over 72 and was tied for 19th following the first round of the Stanford Pepsi Intercollegiate women's golf tournament, played Friday at the 5,853-yard, par-70 Stanford Golf Course. As a team, Oregon was 16th after shooting a 20-over 300.
No. 9 Arizona State was the first round leader at 2-over 282. No. 5 Washington and No. 16 Pepperdine were tied for second at 284, followed by No. 3 UCLA at 287 and Arizona at 289. The tournament features eight of the nation's top 25 teams in the latest Golfweek rankings.
Washington State was sixth at 292, Texas Tech was seventh at 293, No. 22 Tulsa was eighth at 294, No. 12 New Mexico and Stanford were tied for ninth at 295. The remainder of the field had No. 15 Texas 11th at 297, No. 21 USC 12th at 298, Oregon State, New Mexico State and San Jose State tied for 13th at 299, Oregon 16th at 300, Nevada-Las Vegas 17th at 302 and Vanderbilt 18th at 311.
Nealy, a senior from Grants Pass, Ore., trailed first round co-leaders Paige Mackenzie of Washington and Rachel Kyono of Pepperdine by five strokes. Juniors Erin Andrews and Michelle Timpani both had 75s for Oregon and were tied for 46th, while sophomore Kim McCready added a 78 and was tied for 69th.
The second of three rounds will be played Saturday morning.
