
Strong Second Round Lifts Oregon into Tie for First at Duck Invitational

JUNCTION CITY, Ore. ? The Oregon men's golf team used a 12-under 276 during Monday afternoon's second round of the Oregon Duck Invitational at Shadow Hills Country Club to climb into a first-place tie with San Diego State heading into Tuesday's final round.
Both the Aztecs and Ducks finished the day with a two-round total of 574. Oregon State was just four strokes back at 578, Nevada was fourth at 585 and Stanford was fifth at 586.
Monday afternoon, Oregon got a career-low 66 from senior Mike Sica, a 68 from freshman Dustin Pewarchuk and 69 from sophomore Justin St. Clair (Springfield, Ore.). Oregon's afternoon round of 276 was its lowest of the season and the lowest for the school since carding a 274 in the opening round of last spring's U.S. Intercollegiate.
Sica, whose previous low round was 67 twice as a junior and once as a sophomore, was tied for fifth at 142. St. Clair, who missed a career-low round by a stroke, was tied for ninth at even-par 144. Pewarchuk, who also missed a career low by a stroke was tied for 15th at 146. Also for Oregon, freshman Matt Ma was tied for 21st at 148 following rounds of 75-73.
Jonathan Green of Oregon State, who was competing as an individual, held the second round lead at 6-under 138 following identical rounds of 69. The Beavers' Brad Simpson was second at 139 with Ryan Camp of Washington State and Jeff Hansen of San Diego State tied for third at 140. In all, 12 players were within six strokes of the lead.
Sophomore Kyle Johnson of North Bend, Ore., led Oregon's second team with a 147 that left him tied for 19th. Freshman Matt Amen was tied for 21st at 148.
The final round gets underway at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning.
