Cal Sweeps Doubleheader With Oregon In Regular Season Finale

EUGENE ? The third-ranked California Bears swept a doubleheader (3-1, 5-2) over No. 13 Oregon in the regular-season finale for both teams. With the two victories, Cal improves to 46-11 overall, 13-8 Pacific-10 while Oregon is 38-19, 10-11 heading into the postseason.
"Obviously we wanted to close out the season on a positive note for our seniors," Oregon head coach Kathy Arendsen said. "The good thing is now we have the regional tournament and we need to focus on achieving our goal of making it to the world series." Kristina Thorson tossed a one-hitter to lead the Bears to a 3-1 victory in the first game and the Bears used 14 hits in the second game to get the 5-2 win. Thorson, a sophomore, carried a no-hitter through six and a third innings before Oregon's Ashley Richards slapped a double off the wall in left field. Shortstop Breanne Sabol put down a perfect bunt to score sophomore Beth Boskovich in the second inning and put the Ducks ahead 1-0. The Bears evened the score in the fourth inning on a solo home run by Jessica Pamanian and took the lead, 3-1, on a two-run home run by Kaleo Eldredge. In the second game, Cal scored at least one run in the first four innings before being shutout in the final three. The Ducks put two on the board in the third inning on a solo home run by Beth Boskovich and an RBI by Dani Baird. Oregon softball players will be on hand tomorrow evening from 5-6 p.m. in the Pittman Room at the Len Casanova Athletic Center to learn their destination for the NCAA Regional Tournament. Snacks and beverages will be provided and fans are encouraged to join the team.
