Ducks Finish Seventh at NCC

CORVALLIS, Ore. ? Freshman Landon Banks tied for 10th in his first tournament at Oregon to help the Ducks move up one spot and finish seventh Tuesday at the season-opening Northwest Collegiate Classic, played at the par-70, 7,070-yard Trysting Tree Golf Course.
Banks, from Beaverton, Ore., shot a 2-over 72 finished tied for 10th at 5-over 215. Teammate Matt Ma was tied for 13th at 216. The junior from Aiea, Hawaii, carded a 73 Tuesday.
"Landon had a nice outing right out of the shoot," said Oregon coach Steve Nosler. "As a team, we played relatively well today, but we had too many strokes to make up from yesterday."
Oregon State won its own tournament at 850, pulling away from UC Irvine at 856 and Washington State and Texas-Arlington, both at 859. Long Beach State was fifth at 864, Saint Mary's sixth at 865 and Oregon seventh at 872.
Sophomore Joey Benedetti finished tied for 36th at 222 for the Ducks, while senior Gregg LaVoie was tied for 44th at 223.
Oregon State's Vincent Johnson won the individual title with a school and tournament record 14-under 202. Johnson, a sophomore from Portland, had rounds of 67-66-69.
