Skipper Opens Indoor Season in Pole Vault

The returning NCAA indoor champion took fourth with a clearance of 17-4 1/2 (5.30m), while World Championships silver medalist Brad Walker of Nike (first, 18-0 1/2) won the event over Olympic silver medalist Toby Stevenson of Nike (second, 17-8 1/2).

In his two previous collegiate indoor seasons, Skipper has cleared marks of 18-0 1/2 or better in 10 meets, including his top-two NCAA finishes as a sophomore (first, 18-4 1/2) and freshman (second, 18-4 1/2). He is also the Oregon indoor pole vault record holder, thanks to his freshman season clearance of 18-10 1/4 (5.71m) in the United Heritage Invitational in Nampa, Idaho in February 2004.
Saturday's meet in Seattle served as a tune-up for the Pole Vault Summit, scheduled for Reno, Nevada, Fri.-Sat., Jan. 27-28. An elite exhibition section comprised mostly of world-caliber post-collegians is usually held on Friday evening, and collegiate sections follow during the day Saturday.
