
Three Wins by Throws Group in Corvallis

The Ducks added two top-10 measures in the women’s discus.
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon track and field team's outdoor season got started with three wins from the throws group at this weekend's PNW Invite in Corvallis. Ben Smith and Marie Josée Bovele-Linaka each led a 1-2 finish in Friday's discus while Alicia Khunou won the shot put Saturday afternoon.
Bovele-Linaka had a winning toss of 54.46m/178-8 on her third attempt, moving into a tie for eighth on the UO all-time discus list. Khunou started her weekend with a runner-up finish in the discus and a best of 54.14m/177-7, another top-10 program effort.
On the heels of his fourth-place finish in the shot put at the NCAA Indoor Championships, Smith got his outdoor campaign going with a day's best of 58.30m/191-3 to win the discus. He finished ahead of UO teammate Kobe Lawrence (52.23m/171-4) in the competition. Smith was the Big Ten Indoor Freshman of the Year.
In another 1-2 Oregon finish, Khunou picked up with victory in the shot put with a third-round measure of 15.19m/49-10. Fellow UO freshman Taylor Wiseman (14.97m/49-1.5) was second in the event after a fourth-place finish in Friday's discus.
Notable: Freshman Greyson Glivinski became the 14th woman in program history beyond 50 meters in the javelin using the current implement (since 1999) … Glivinski (50.38m/165-3) and Hayden Williams-Downing (49.17m/161-4) finished second and third overall … Pat Vialva opened his senior year with a runner-up finish (67.22m/220-6) in the javelin.

Oregon will host an open practice Tuesday at Hayward Field. The first session featuring the UO sprints, jumps and multis groups is scheduled to start at 9:45 a.m. Fans will be able to enter through Hayward Hall starting at 9:15 a.m.
Ticket packages for the Ducks' outdoor home schedule are currently on sale. The team is set to host the Oregon Team Invitational (April 18) and Oregon Twilight (May 8), along with the NCAA Championships in June.
