Oregon Finishes 16th at Ping Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. ? The Oregon men's golf team carded a solid second round 289, but fell back in the final round with a 317 to finish 16th Tuesday at the Ping Arizona Intercollegiate, played on the par-71, 6,900-yard Arizona National Golf Club.
Freshman Landon Banks of Portland tied for 62nd at 13-over 226 to lead the Ducks. Banks had an even-par 71 in the second round, which was completed Tuesday morning after being suspended due to darkness Monday, but struggled with a final round 81.
Junior Jay Snyder earned Oregon's low round of the tournament with a 69 in the second round, but he too struggled with the wind and ended up with a final round 81. Overall, Snyder tied for 68th at 228.
"The wind came up today and we really didn't handle it well," said Oregon coach Steve Nosler. "We had a decent second round, but didn't do ourselves any favors with our final showing."
Brigham Young won the tournament at 18-under 834. Arizona and Arizona State tied for second at 9-under 843. New Mexico was fourth at 4-under 848, with Pepperdine and Tulsa tied for fifth at 850.
Oregon finished with 918 strokes, 14 behind California and Oregon State (904).
