Ducks Fall in Four at No. 6 USC

LOS ANGELES ? The sixth-ranked USC Women of Troy proved too tough to beat on their home floor, handing Oregon a 3-1 defeat in a Pac-10 volleyball matinee on Friday.
USC (24-4, 13-4 Pac-10) dispatched the Ducks (17-10, 7-10) by counts of 30-20, 26-30, 30-21 and 30-27 in front of a post Thanksgiving Day crowd of 742.
“They put more balls on the floor than we did, plain and simple,” said head coach Jim Moore.
Game 3 was a perfect example of that analogy as Oregon allowed just one point via attack errors, but USC recorded eight more kills (20-12).
The hosts were led by Asia Kaczor's match-high 22 kills and 25 points. Jessica Gysin hit .343 (17-5-35) with 17 kills and Diane Copenhagen contributed 16 spikes for the Women of Troy.
Southern Cal senior Debora Seilhammer dug 41 balls, an average of more than 10 per game.
For the Ducks, Mira Djuric played a nearly flawless match against the Pac-10 power, hitting .643 (19-1-28) with a 19:1 kill to error ratio. Freshman Sonja Newcombe had 17 kills and a team-high 20 points in the loss.
UO libero Katie Swoboda had a team-high 24 digs and freshman setter Nevena Djordjevic led the Ducks with 29 assists.
Oregon, which is still receiving votes in the AVCA/CSTV Top 25 Coaches Poll, will face No. 4 UCLA in the regular season finale for both teams on Saturday at 5 p.m.
