EUGENE, Ore. -- Oregon scored a school record 22 goals, including a school record tying five by freshman Ilsa van den Berg, as the Ducks comfortably rolled to a 22-8 victory over St. Mary's Friday night at Pape' Field.
The 22 goals by the Ducks bested the previous record of 19 from last year's matches against Marist (3-18-05) and St. Mary's (3-20-05) and also became the largest margin of victory by an Oregon team, breaking the previous margin of 13 goals, also established against St. Mary's (3-20-05).
Ten different Ducks had goals on the night, with sophomores Jenny Browne adding three goals and Lindsey Killian contributing four. Redshirt freshman Alison Leiner, sophomore Jana Bradley, and sophomore Kate Fleming added two goals a piece.
Leiner, an Ocean City, Maryland native added six record-setting assists to lead the Ducks, who had 15 assists on their 22 goals. Eight different Ducks had at least one assist on the evening.
"We're a transition team and Ilsa [van den Berg] found herself open alot in the low attack." Coach Jen Larsen said. "We moved the ball pretty well and she was able to capitalize on her chances."
The Ducks opened the game with seven straight goals, including three from van den Berg, and would never look back.
Anna Poponyak and Allison O'Brien split time in goal for the Ducks, combining for seven saves in the game.
There were four yellow cards handed out, two to each team in a game that was scrappy and physical at times.
With the win, the Ducks move to 2-1 overall and in conference, doubling their conference win total of last year. They next face Georgetown Sunday at 1 p.m. at Pap? Field.
