EUGENE, Ore.?Sophomore Jen May tied the Oregon record with six goals in Tuesday's 13-11 victory over Stony Brook at Pape' Field. The win marked the Lacrosse team's seventh triumph of the season.
May, a Davidsonville, Md., native, also had two ground balls, four draw controls, and three caused turnovers. Four of May's goals were assisted by redshirt freshman Alison Leiner, who set the six-goal record last Friday in Oregon's 14-13 loss to Denver. Leiner also had an additional assist, two ground balls and one caused turnover.
"Alison [Leiner] is my favorite person to play with on the team," May said. "When we got here last year, we just connected on the field."
Sophomore Jana Bradley and freshman Ilsa van den Berg contributed three goals apiece. Van den Berg also had one assist and two ground balls.
Sophomore Theresa Waldron scored one goal for the Ducks, while sophomores Cara Mead and Alicia Burkhart were each credited with an assist. Sophomore Liora Lobel led the team with three ground balls.
"I'm proud we were able to collect ourselves at the half," Head Coach Jen Larsen said. "[The players] really held themselves accountable."
Goalkeeper Anna Poponyak played the whole game, netting eleven saves and one ground ball.
The Ducks next head to Massachusetts for a challenging pair of games, squaring off against Holy Cross at 4 p.m. on Thursday and Boston University at 10 a.m. Saturday.
"Coming off this win makes traveling so much easier," Larsen said.
