
Ducks Score Two Late to Defeat Crusaders, 14-13

WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Ducks scored two goals in the final two minutes, including Jen May's game-winner with 21 seconds remaining, as Oregon used a balanced effort to defeat the Holy Cross Crusaders, 14-13, Thursday afternoon at Hart Field in Worcester, Massachussettes.
After tying the game on freshman Ilsa van den Berg's unassissted goal with 1:44 remaing, the Ducks gained possession on the crucial draw control and held the ball for the final shot. Redshirt freshman Alison Leiner would set up behind the net with 30 seconds remaining and find sophmore Jen May streaking into the circle, who caught the ball in front of the net and sent it past Holy Cross goal keeper Megan Orr for the lead and her second goal of the game. Freshman Alicia Burkhart would control the draw for the Ducks to seal the victory.
Leiner, a graduate of Worcester Preperatory School, had two goals and two total assists in the victory, one of four Ducks with two goals or more. Theresa Waldron and Jana Bradley added two goals in the effort. Waldron and van den Berg also chipped in two assists.
"This was an overall team effort in all facets of the game, from goalkeeper to the defense and the offense," said Head Coach Jen Larsen. "We were poised with the ball and very tenacious on defense."
Sophomore Goalkeeper Anna Poponyak had five saves in collecting her eighth win of the season.
Sophomores Lindsay Killian and Cara Mead also tallied goals for Oregon.
The Ducks continure to extend their school record for wins, moving to 8-6 on the year. They remain 2-2 in the MPSF conference. Oregon had six wins in the 2005 season.
Oregon next travels to face Boston University on Saturday at 10 a.m. PST.
