PHILADELPHIA ? Senior All-America hurdler Eric Mitchum paced the University of Oregon men's track and field team in final day action Saturday in the Penn Relays.

The five-time-All-American finished second in the 110-meter hurdles final (13.83) behind fellow All-American Jason Richardson of South Carolina (13.72 w:), while abother collegian, Middle Tennessee State's Linnie Yarbrough, also broke 14 seconds (third, 13.84)

Mitchum earned his position in Saturday's final after he led Friday's prelims (13.69), ahead of Richardson (second, 13.70), Texas Tech's Marlon Odom (third, 13.86), Howard's Jacoby DuBose (fourth, 13.95) and Yarbrough (fifth, 13.96).

In relay duty Saturday, Oregon's 4x400-meter relay took fifth (3:10.90) and was slowed twice by poor hand-offs. Senior Travis Anderson led off the unit and was followed by redshirt junior Jordan Kent, senior Akobundu Ikwuakor and senior Matt Scherer, and the latter Duck moved UO from eighth back up to fifth place with an unofficial 44.8-second anchor leg.

The All-America UO quartet had qualified for the final after they placed third in their prelim heat Friday with a 2.49-second season best of 3:08.82 ? their first mark of '06 under the 3:10.00 NCAA regional qualifying standard.

Looking ahead, the Oregon men and women's team return home for their regular season finale, the Oregon Twilight at Hayward Field in Eugene, Friday, May 5. The first field and running events start at approximately 4:30 p.m., and the meet will conclude that evening with a final lap by the Duck seniors.

Also next weekend, the Pac-10 Championships heptathlon and decathlon kick off the championship season. Action will run from approximately noon ? 5:30 pm on both Saturday and Sunday, May 6-7, and admission for the Pac-10 hep/dec is free.

The “Conference of Champions” boasts many of the nation's top multi-event athletes, including the top two finishers in the NCAA indoor women's pentathlon, while three league men have already topped the 7,000-point barrier this season.

Redshirt senior decathlete Andrew Young is a two-time NCAA decathlon veteran (11th in '05,13th in ?04), three-time Pac-10 top-five scorer and the top Pac-10 Championships returnee from last season after he took second (7,165). Senior heptathlete Lauryn Jordan was also an NCAA qualifier and Pac-10 placer (14th/fourth) in her first season for UO in '05. Two weekends ago, redshirt freshman Kalindra McFadden and Jordan moved to fifth and sixth all-time for UO with hep personal bests in the Mt. SAC Relays (5,428 / 5,426).
