AUBURN, Wash. ? The Oregon men's golf team shot a 10-over 298 to finish ninth Tuesday at the season-opening Opus NW Husky Invitational, played at the par-72, 7,034-yard Washington National Golf Club.

Senior Jay Snyder, the Ducks' most consistent golfer for Casey Martin, making his debut as Oregon's head coach, shot a 74 Tuesday to finish tied for 23rd at 4-over 220. Junior Joey Benedetti closed with a 75 and tied for 30th at 222.

UCLA cruised to the team title by shooting an even-par 288 Tuesday. The Bruins' 855 was nine strokes better than Washington's even-par 864. UC Davis took third at 876, a stroke better than California. The bottom five teams consisted of Washington State (881), Loyola Marymount (886), San Diego State (887), Oregon State (891) and Oregon (896).

Washington's John Wise shot a 1-under 71 to win the individual title at 7-under 209. He beat UCLA's Lucas Lee, who carded a 74 Tuesday, by one shot. Louis Bishop of UC Davis and Alex Prugh of Washington tied for third at 211.

The Ducks are next in action Monday and Tuesday at the Northwest Collegiate Classic in Corvallis, Ore.
