Ducks Continue Jam Domination, Down UCSB
12/08/07 | Women's Basketball
PORTLAND, Ore. ? The Pape' Jam continues to be a favorite event for the Oregon women's basketball team.
For the tenth time in as many tries, the Ducks (5-3) were victorious at the Rose Garden doubleheader with the UO men's team, this time disposing of UC Santa Barbara, 65-56.
Oregon did the Gauchos in with post play and free throws, getting the second straight double-double from Ellyce Ironmonger (17 points, 12 rebounds) and 14 points, including an 8-of-10 performance at the foul line, from Ellie Manou.
On the game, UO converted 27-of-35 at the charity stripe, compared to six points on only seven attempts for UCSB.
Swing forward Kaela Chapdelaine, Oregon's lone senior, was the third Duck in double digits, scoring 11 points to go with seven assists and six rebounds.
UCSB (3-5) also had three players in double figures led by Chisa Ononiwu with 16.
The outcome shouldn't come as a huge surprise, considering the Ducks and Gauchos were playing for the third time in a year with Oregon improving to 3-0 during that span. The Ducks opened the 2006-07 season with a road win and dominated UCSB at home during the postseason WNIT.
Trailing 37-34 with 11:50 to play, Oregon capped an 11-0 run on a pair of free throws from Manou and never looked back. Taylor Lilley's reverse lay-in with 5:35 left was another dagger, giving the Ducks their biggest lead at 55-42.
The first half proved brutal on the offensive end or both sides with Oregon shooting 29.6 percent to 25.9 for UCSB. Outside of Ironmonger, who was 5-of-7 for ten points, the rest of the Duck contingent combined to shoot 3-of-20 from the field.
UO's Nicole Canepa led all players with six rebounds in the opening period.
Oregon's schedule will get more difficult as they approach Pac-10 play, starting with a trip to Baylor on Dec. 12.
