Ducks Climb to Sixth at Fresno Tourney

FRESNO, Calif. ? Freshman Marcus Sostak shot a final round 67 Tuesday to help Oregon climb to sixth in the final standings at the Fresno State-Lexus Golf Classic.
Sostak finished the tournament tied for 13th at 2-over 218 at the par-72 Sunnyside Gold Course.
As a team, Oregon shot a 5-under 283 Friday and moved up three spots to sixth at 880.
San Diego State won the event at 15-under 849, one shot better than UC Irvine.
Nevada was third at 870 with Hawaii fourth at 872, Fresno State fifth at 878 and Oregon in sixth, a shot ahead of Kansas State and five better than Pacific and New Mexico State.
Also for the Ducks, Derek Sipe tied for 23rd at 220 after a 72 on Tuesday, while Ted Whitney's 2-under 70 lifted him into a tie for 32nd at 222.
UC Irvine's Brian Edick held off teammate Jay Choe by two strokes to win the individual title. Edick shot a 7-under 209, while Choe was at 211.
The Ducks are next in action at the Oregon Classic March 26-27.
