Bradley's Four Goals Catapult Ducks Past Columbia, 13-12

NEW YORK -- Jana Bradley had four goals, her most this season, and one assist as the Ducks (8-4) held off a late charge by the Columbia Lions, 13-12, Wednesday afternoon at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium.
The Ducks led by as many as six goals, but the Lions were tenacious as they rallied late but would fall short as the Ducks held on to the victory, their first against the Ivy League team.
"This was a phenomenal lacrosse game and both teams played well," head coach Jen Larsen said. "It was good to see Jana get some goals and hopefully she can be a weapon for us as the year continues."
Oregon opened with five consecutive goals and would never look back, although the margin was closer than they would have liked at times.
Alison Leiner opened the run less than :50 seconds into the game and had a pair of goals in the run, with Brooke Dieringer, Kate Fleming and Bradley joining the opening run.
The Ducks would go into the half leading 8-5 as the teams traded three goal runs to end the half after two Columbia goals in the 19th and 16th minutes brought the score to 5-2. Oregon outshot Columbia 21-8 in the opening period and controlled a majority of the draws.
The second half was a different story as the Lions came out with a 3-1 run which would bring them within one goal of Oregon at 9-8. Sophomore Ilsa van den Berg and junior Theresa Waldron put an end to the run with two goals giving the Ducks an 11-8 lead.
Two Columbia goals would again put the margin to only one goal, but Bradley scored two straight unassisted goals to quell the Columbia run and give the Ducks enough leeway for the victory.
Columbia scored the last two goals of the game and controlled the last draw with :40 seconds to play, but a dogged Oregon defense caused a turnover and the Ducks were able to run out the clock.
Defensively, redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Ana Poponyak returned from injury to make four saves, while six different Ducks caused turnovers and Alicia Burkhart led the team with five ground balls.
Jen May once again led the Ducks in draw controls with three, while four other Ducks controlled two draws.
The Ducks continue their final East Coast swing as the take on Stony Brook and Friday and Lehigh on Saturday.
