Ducks Quieted by Quakers, 6-1
03/04/07 | Men's Tennis
BOISE -- For the second day in a row, freshman Geoff Embry was the only Duck to record a win for the Ducks as they fell 6-1 to the Penn Quakers Sunday in a neutral site match held on the campus of Boise State.
Embry was the only Duck able to gain momentum over the weekend as he defeated Adam Schwartz at the No. 6 position for the Ducks only singles victory. The Phoenix, Ariz. native defeated Timmy Allin of Utah on Saturday.
The Ducks played the doubles matches against Penn Saturday night and returned to the court Sunday morning to finish up the dual meet with the singles matches. The pair of Marcos Verdasco and Francisco Gallardo picked up an 8-2 victory for the Ducks in the doubles portion of the match, but the Ducks lost the doubles point.
"I hoped that we would come out with a little fire today after yesterday's matches," director of tennis Nils Schyllander said. "Unfortunately we weren't able to find any momentum and we were outplayed today."
None of the Ducks save Embry could get anything going against the Ivy League Quakers as all of the matches ended in straight sets except Gallardo's. The freshman fell 6-2, 1-6, (2) to Simon Bekker.
