Men?s Golf Moves up a Spot at North Ranch

WEST LAKE VILLAGE, Calif. ? Eric Hastings built on Monday's career-low 67 by closing with a 1-over 72 Tuesday to finish tied for 15th at the 30th annual USC Collegiate Invitational. Hastings finished the tournament at 3-over 216.
The senior from Spokane posted the second-best finish of his career and helped the Ducks move up a spot to 13th in the final standings. Hastings' only higher finish as a collegian was a tie for 14th at the 2004 Allister Mackenzie Invitational.
"To get a top-15 finish out of a guy who hasn't played much in two years in a strong field like we had at this tournament, I'm obviously proud of Eric," said Oregon coach Casey Martin. "We gave him an opportunity to play for the first time in a while and he went out and competed hard and really made the most of it.
"The rest of the team, well we still have some work to do," said Martin. "But at the same time, we can't let ourselves get too down just because of one bad day of golf like we had on Monday."
Oregon shot an 8-over 292, it's best round of the tournament, on Tuesday. The Ducks finished at 891, a shot back of Oregon State and a shot ahead of Loyola Marymount at the par-71, 6,742-yard North Ranch Country Club.
No. 2 Stanford shot a 5-under 279 Tuesday to finish at 848 and defeat No. 10 USC by five shots for the team title. No. 15 Tennessee was third at 868, followed by No. 12 UCLA at 870 and No. 8 Brigham Young at 873 to round out the top five.
USC's Rory Hie carded only an even-par 71 Tuesday, but it was enough to give him a two shot victory over teammate Jamie Lovemark and Loyola Marymount's Brian Locke. Hie began the day a stroke back of Locke and Lovemark, but both golfers shot 3-over 74s in the final round to finish at 210. Hie won the tournament at 5-under 208.
On Tuesday, the Ducks also counted an even-par 71 from Derek Sipe, a 3-over 74 from Matt Ma and a 4-over 75 from Joey Benedetti.
Next up for the Ducks is the March 12-13 Lexus Classic in Fresno, Calif.
