TEMPE - The No. 8 University of Oregon volleyball team ended its final road trip of the regular season at Arizona State Saturday night with its 17th win by a 3-0 count in '08.
UO (22-7, 10-6) won by a score of 25-22, 25-13, 25-23 over ASU (13-16, 4-12) to finish the weekend with a 1-1 mark against its desert rivals.
Four Duck hitters had double-digit kill totals - Gorana Maricic (12, .258), Sonja Newcombe (12, .333), Neticia Enesi (10, .389) and Heather Meyers (10).
Junior setter Nevena Djordjevic had a three-set career high for assists (45) - her 12th +40-assist total of the season - and improved on her former three-set career mark two weeks ago in a win at Oregon State (42).
On defense, senior libero Katie Swoboda had a team-high 14 digs, and the school record holder from Portland, Ore., moved solely into the second position on the Pac-10 all-time digs chart (2,100). For comparison's sake, the all-time category leader is recent Arizona State player Sydney Donahue (2,385, 2004-07).
Three other UO players also had double-digit dig tallies to notch double-doubles - Newcombe (12), Djordjevic (11), Meyers (10).
Enesi led the team in blocks (5) for the 16th time this year, and Newcombe and senior Kristen Forristall added three each.
In other history-setting news, Djordjevic's assists total this weekend moved her into second all-time for UO career-wise (2,800) and ahead of Julie Gerlach (second, 2,732, 1998-2001) and now only behind Stephanie Snyder (first, 3,883, 1986-89).
Swoboda topped 500 digs for the third straight season Saturday, and her current season total (501) is moving her closer to the top two marks that she posted in 2007 (586) and '06 (565).
After this weekend's action, Maricic's team-high 443 points this season moved her into eighth on the UO single season list, two places better than her position earlier in the week. The Subotica, Serbia native is now 15 1/2 points away from the next three positions since Kelly Russell stands fourth all-time with her total from 2005 (458.5), while Maricic also holds the all-time best with her mark from last season (679.5).
Enesi's three block assists Saturday now gives her the seventh-best season mark all-time (115), and only six shy of the third-best total all-time held by Laura Krejcha (123, 1986). The Dalles, Ore. native also now has 878.5 career points and moved to fifth this weekend ahead of former teammate Kristin Bitter (sixth, 866, 2003-06).
As a team Saturday, UO hit .270 for the evening after it combined on totals of .214, .467 and .186 in the first, second and third sets, respectively.
In contrast, ASU finished with a .059 hitting mark - the eighth Duck foe this season to hit under .100 - after it posted marks of .064, .000 and .095 each set, respectively.
Among the home team's leaders, Sarah Reaves posted 12 kills, Marina Mercer was credited with 25 assists, Sarah Johnson came up with 13 digs, Sofie Schlagintweit and Camri Zwiesler served two aces, and Sonja Markanovich ended with three blocks.
The Ducks' 10th conference victory this season tied its most since 1989 when it went 10-8 and tied for fourth in the Pac-10.
UO's 22nd overall win Saturday matched last year's victory total (22-11) - its highest tally since 1986 when the Ducks went 22-12.
Overall going back to 2006, the Ducks have won four of the last five matches vs. the Sun Devils, and ASU now holds a 35-10 edge in the series.
Looking ahead, UO returns home to host No. 2 Stanford and No. 7 California, next Wednesday and Friday, November 26 and 28, at 7 p.m. each night at McArthur Court.
