03/30/08 | Women's Lacrosse
HAMILTON, N.Y - The 14th-ranked Oregon Ducks held off a late surge by Colgate and collected their second consecutive victory with an 11-9 win over the Raiders on Sunday afternoon at Tyler's Field.
The Ducks are now 9-3 on the season, just one victory away from reaching double-digit wins for the third straight season. Colgate falls to 5-7 with the loss.
Currently ranked as the No. 14 team in the nation, Oregon will return home to Pape' Field next Saturday to host Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opponent Denver at 1 p.m.
Against Colgate, the Ducks allowed just three first-half goals from the Raiders, walking into halftime with a dominating 7-3 lead.
Oregon then built on that lead early in the second half, as the Ducks, led by two goals from senior Lindsay Killian, registered four of the first five scores to take an 11-4 advantage.
But the Raiders were not out. Colgate scored five unanswered goals in the final 19 minutes of the half in its attempt for a comeback.
The Ducks were led in the scoring column by Killian's game-high four goals. Senior Jen May added two goals and an assist, while Waldron, Cara Mead, Erin Chisnell, Jenny Browne and Alex Breiner also reached the scoring column.
Oregon junior goalkeeper Anna Popnyak make six saves and allowed nine goals in a full 60 minutes of action.
The Ducks outshot the Raiders 28-16, forcing Colgate goalkeeper Sara Drexler to make 11 saves. She also played the entire 60 minutes.
Colgate is the only non-conference opponent Oregon has played each of the last four years. The series record is now even at 2-2.
