Lacrosse Records First Shutout in Program History, Blanks Fresno St. 20-0

EUGENE, Ore. ? The University of Oregon women's lacrosse team recorded the first shutout in program history, upending Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opponent Fresno State, 20-0, Friday night on Pape' Field.
Thirteen different players scored goals for the Ducks (3-2, 2-1 MPSF), who take a two-game win streak into Sunday's 1 p.m. home contest against Vermont.
“It's a nice feather in our program's cap,” said head coach Jen Larsen. “There weren't a lot of fouls, and we were making plays together as a team.”
Erin Chisnell gets credit for the fastest game-winning goal ever at Oregon as her shot 22 seconds into the game put the Ducks on top for good.
UO led 7-0 before the contest was eight minutes old and the rout was on in full force.
“We had lots of momentum and I challenged them to compete for 60 minutes which they did,” Larsen said.
It was 11-0 at the half, with the Ducks outshooting the Bulldogs (0-5, 0-4) by a count of 24-1. For the game, Oregon had a 38-2 advantage in shots over Fresno State, a first-year program with a roster peppered with first-time participants in the sport.
“I was impressed with their heart,” Larsen said. “They are one scrappy team and I will enjoy watching them build.”
A pair of freshmen paced Oregon's balanced attack with Bina Barrett scoring three goals and Catherine Davidson garnering three assists. Both players shared the team-high with four points.
Freshman twins Jana and Jess Drummond had identical lines of two goals and one assist for three points, as did Alex Breiner and Anna Swicklik. Celeste Mayer joined the three-point parade with a goal and two helpers.
Chisnell, one of nine starters to find the back of the net, finished with two goals.
“We knew they were a new conference team, but we just wanted to play a full sixty minutes,” the junior midfielder said. “We wanted to outhustle them to every ball, shoot every time to score, and work on our game.”
Freshman attacker Megan Schneider scored her first career goal and fellow frosh Lara Bennett tallied her first assist as Larsen utilized a deep bench, including all three goalies.
“A lot of freshman got to play and I was proud of them for moving the ball,” Larsen said.
Added Chisnell: “We had good effort, and we got almost everyone off the bench. I think almost every freshman got to touch the field, and we have fifteen of them, so it was good experience.”
Things likely won't be quite as easy on Sunday against the Catamounts (2-2) as Oregon continues its season-long four-game homestand.
“We need to get on a roll, and get some momentum rolling for the rest of the season, and this was a good way to start,” Davidson said.
