Ducks? 4x100 Meter Relay Team Breaks Record Again
04/18/09 | Track and Field
WALNUT, Calif. -- Oregon's 4x100 meter relay team broke the school record for the second time this season, while Zoe Buckman blazed to a personal best in the 1,500 meters and Jordan Roskelley reached new heights in the pole vault during Friday's action at the Mt. SAC Relays at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
The 4x100 meter relay team lowered its school record to 44.61 in beating Nevada-Las Vegas by more than a second. The Ducks quintet of Mandy White, Amber Purvis, Keshia Baker and Jamesha Youngblood that ran on Friday was the same that set the school record by running 44.64 at Stanford three weeks ago.
Roskelley notched her second personal best of the season by clearing the bar at 12 feet, 11.5 inches to finish tied for second on Friday. That was a three-inch PR for the sophomore from Spokane, Wash., and that bar moved her into seventh on Oregon's career top 10.
Buckman turned in an impressive performance in the top section of the women's 1,500 meters, finishing seventh in a career-best 4:17.22. She was third among collegians, crossing the line behind only Sara Vaughn of Rice (4:16.09) and Christine Babcock of Washington (4:16.50).
The junior from Canberra, Australia, recorded the seventh-fastest 1,500 meter time at Oregon on Friday night, and joined teammate Nicole Blood as the only two Ducks to crack 4:18.00 in the last 20 years.
Also in the 1,500 meters on Friday night, sophomore Alexandra Kosinski just missed a PR with a 10th-place finish in 4:18.70, while Blood recorded a season best 4:18.83 in taking 11th and recording an NCAA qualifying mark.
In other action from the Mt. SAC Relays, the Ducks posted a 1-2 finish in heat two of the 200 meters. Purvis, a freshman from Hercules, Calif., ran 23.69 to win the heat, while Baker was right behind her in 23.84. The junior from Sacramento, Calif., posted an NCAA regional qualifying-mark in her first 200 meter race of the outdoor season.
Sophomore heptathlete Brianne Theisen won her heat of the 400 meters in 55.33.
In addition to the record in the 4x100 relay, Youngblood, a sophomore from San Pablo, Calif., took third in the triple jump with a leap of 40-3.5.
Senior Lucy Cridland threw 162-2 to finish fourth in the discus.
Saturday, Oregon's two entries at Mt. SAC include sophomore Melissa Gergel in the open section of the pole vault and Baker in the open section of the 400 meters.
Meanwhile, the top-ranked men's team will be at Historic Hayward Field to take on No. 16 UCLA in a dual meet beginning at 12:30 p.m.
