Oregon Topples No. 17 Washington, 90-79

SEATTLE, Wash. -- The University of Oregon men's basketball team shot a season-high 53 percent from the field en route to a 90-79 road win over No. 17 Washington Saturday afternoon at Bank of America Arena in Seattle. The win was the Ducks' sixth straight, improving their overall mark to 10-4 and 2-0 in Pac-10 Conference play.The Huskies dropped to 10-3 on the year and 1-1 in league play.

Sophomore guard Malcolm Armstead led the Ducks in scoring with 21 points on 9-of-17 shooting. The 6-0 transfer from Chipola College finished with six assists (to just two turnovers) while adding three steals in 36 minutes of action. Fellow sophomore Michael Dunigan recorded his second straight double-double, finishing with 21 points and a career-high 14 rebounds.

Senior guard Tajuan Porter had 16 points (4-of-8 on 3-pointers) to go with four assists in playing a team-high 37 minutes.

It was Oregon's first road win over Washington since its 85-73 victory on Feb. 17, 2001. With the win Thursday at Washington State and Saturday's at UW, it marked the first time since the 1999-2000 season that Oregon swept the road games at the Washington schools.

Oregon made 35 if their 66 field goal attempts, going 7-of-17 on 3-pointers for 41.2 percent. The Ducks ended up 13-of-17 from the free throw line, despite not shooting a free throw in the first half. Washington made 22-of-35 free throw attempts (62.9 percent). UW was limited to 44.8 percent shooting from the floor (26-of-58), while making just 5-of-18 on 3-pointers.

Isaiah Thomas scored a game-high 25 points to lead three Washington players in double figures.

The Huskies out-scored Oregon, 11-8, to open the first four minutes of the game. Dunigan had four of UO's points in that stretch. A 3-pointer from Porter cut the Husky lead to five points, 16-11, just six minutes into the game. Armstead made a lay-up, and followed that with a long 3-pointer to again narrow the lead to five points, 21-16, with 12:37 in the half.

The Ducks played UW even through the 8-minute mark, with UW maintaining a six-point lead at 29-23.

Oregon then went on an 11-2 run over a three-minute span to give the Ducks a 32-31 advantage, their first lead of the game. Porter had five points during that stretch, including his third 3-pointer of the half. Armstead and Longmire had steals that led to run-out lay-ups to help the Ducks get on top.

Oregon out-scored UW, 22-12, over a nine-minute span to give the Ducks a 38-33 advantage with 3:23 remaining in the first.

Washington came back to out-score the Ducks, 8-4, but Oregon would take the slim 42-41 advantage into the halftime break. UO was led by Armstead and Porter, with both players tallying 11 points over the first 20 minutes. Freshman forward E.J. Singler added four points and a team-best four rebounds in the stanza. UW was led by Thomas who tallied 13 points on just 2-of-7 shooting, but did hit 8-of-8 from the free throw line. The Huskies made 12-of-17 free throws in the half while the Ducks did not attempt a free throw.

Freshman forward Jamil Wilson made a pair of jumpers to open the second, and Armstead hit a fade-away jumper from the baseline, giving the Ducks a 50-42 advantage with 17:12 on the clock.

A 3-pointer from sophomore guard Teondre Williams gave Oregon a 10-point lead at 63-53 with 11:40 on the clock. Sophomore guard LeKendric Longmire drove baseline and found Dunigan for the lay-up to give UO a 65-56 advantage at the 10-minute mark.

The Ducks out-scored UW, 13-7, over the next 10 minutes to take a 78-63 lead with 5:30 in the game. A three-point play by UW's Vinoy Overton cut Oregon's lead to nine points, 79-70, at the 3:30 mark.

Porter made a huge 3-pointer, his fourth of the game, to give UO an 82-70 lead with 3:00 in the game. The Ducks made free throws down the stretch to hold on for a 90-79 win.

Oregon (10-4, 2-0 Pac-10) will return to action Jan. 10 with a home game against rival Oregon State.

-- It was the first time that Oregon swept the road games at the Washington schools since the 1999-2000 season.

-- It was the first time Oregon defeated a ranked opponent since Jan. 13, 2008, the Ducks' 71-66 home win over then 23-ranked Stanford.

-- The Ducks last road win over UW was on Feb. 17, 2001, an 85-73 victory where Luke Jackson recorded a triple-double.

-- Tajuan Porter improved his school-record for 3-pointers made to 308 (now 308-of-786, .391). Porter needs 35 more to break the Pac-10 Conference record held by Arizona's Salim Stoudamire who made 342 career 3-pointers from 2002-05.

Porter took over ninth place all-time in career scoring at Oregon (1,570 points in 108 career games), moving by Blair Rasmussen who tallied 1,554 points in 114 career games from 1981-85.

-- Michael Dunigan has recorded double-digit scoring efforts in six of his last seven games, averaging a team-best 16.1 points and 6.9 rebounds per outing while making 62.9 percent of his shots (39-of-62).

Dunigan recorded his third double-double of the season (third in the last five games). His previous came in the home win over Oakland on Dec. 19 (16 points, 10 rebounds) and a road win over Washington State on Dec. 31 (22 points, 12 rebounds).
