Dyer Paces Ducks in Las Vegas Opener

LAS VEGAS – The No. 25 University of Oregon women's golf team ended Monday's opening round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown only four strokes shy of second place.
Oregon stood ninth with an 11-over score of 299, while No. 19 Arkansas paced the 17-team field with its 11-under 277.
No. 33 Washington followed 17 strokes back of the lead in second place (second, 294), and one stroke ahead of No. 35 Louisville and No. 11 Arizona who were tied for third place at 295.
Individually for UO, freshman Raphael Dyer paced UO and tied for fifth place overall with her two-under 70. That score was her second under-par collegiate round, bettered her previous best by one stroke, and led UO for the second time among her nine scores this fall.
On the par 72, 6,329-yard Boulder Creek Golf Club course, the Swanmore, England native carded seven birdies on three par-5 holes (#1, 9, 16) and four par-4 holes (#5, 6, 10, 18), and also logged six par scores (#3-4, 7-8, 12-13) and five bogeys (#2, 11, 14-15, 17).
Senior Kendra Little also stood top 25 overall (24th-tie, 74), and other Duck scorers Monday included senior Monika Graf (56th-tie, 77) and junior Ashley Edwards (64th-tie, 78). In her second collegiate tourney and first for the Duck squad, sophomore Avery Sills followed in a tie for 64th place (78).
Among other birdie counts, Edwards and Little each carded three, and Graf claimed one.
Overall on the individual leaderboard, Emily Tubert of Arkansas led the field by five strokes with her nine-under 63, and was followed by Karinn Dickinson of Washington and Kayla Mortellaro of Idaho were tied for second place with four-under scores of 68.
