Smatova Finishes Strong Performance at ITA Regionals

STANFORD, Calif. – Pavlina Smatova concluded a solid performance with a quarterfinal appearance at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northwest Regional Championships on Monday.
The Ducks' senior won her third consecutive contest and her second straight against a Pac-10 foe by dispatching Washington State's Luidmila Vasilieva (6-4; 6-4) in the round of 16. Smatova's run finally came to an end in the quarterfinals as she fell to Stanford's Nicole Gibbs (6-0; 6-2).
Smatova also took the court in doubles play with Patricia Skowronski, with the duo falling for the first time in the round of 16 to Cal Poly's Alexa Lee and Amy Markhoff (8-5).
The Ducks have a week off before they split up for the New Mexico Invitational and the Thunderbird Invitational Nov. 5-7.
