Dyer Leads Ducks to Sixth in Las Vegas Finale

LAS VEGAS – After posting the best team score in Wednesday's final round, the No. 25 University of Oregon women's golf team climbed three positions into a tie for sixth place (299-289-289-877) Wednesday in the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.
UO's one-over 289 final round at the Boulder Creek Country Club matched its second-best score of the fall for the second straight day – only one stroke shy of its season best that it shot the first round of the campaign.
In the overall team standings, No. 19 Arkansas (277-276-293-846) added five more strokes to its lead to end with a 23-stroke advantage over No. 25 Kent State (second, 296-277-296-869), while 11 Arizona (295-276-301-871) followed in third place (296-277-573) in the 17-team field.
UO tied No. 43 Minnesota at 877 for sixth place, and the two teams finished within one stroke of No. 35 Louisville (fourth-tie, 295-279-302-876) and No. 33 Washington (fourth-tie, 294-288-294-876).
Oregon finished ahead of four other top-50 teams in the field – No. 47 East Carolina (ninth, 304-278-312-894), No. 40 UNLV (10th, 296-292-307-895), No. 50 New Mexico (11th, 303-292-303-898) and No. 41 San Diego State (13th, 306-288-311-905).
Individually for UO Wednesday, freshman Raphaela Dyer (sixth-tie, 70-74-69-213) shot her collegiate low for the second time in the tourney. Her overall score was her first team-best in an event, and was the second-best among UO's 20 scores on the season.
On the par 72, 6,329-yard course Wednesday, Dyer carded five birdies (#4, 11, 13, 16, 18), and added 11 par scores (#1, 3, 5-8, 10, 12, 14-15, 17) and two bogeys (#2, 9).
Wednesday's score was one off the team's fall season best – a four-under 68 by Kendra Little in her first round of the slate. The Swanmore, England native Dyer also enjoyed her third under-par round among her 11 scores on the fall (including a 2-under 70 Monday and a 1-under 71 in the Ptarmigan Ram Classic finale a month ago).
Junior Ashley Edwards (18th-tie, 78-70-71-219) added her second straight under-par round, fourth of the season and 12th of her career, and also staked her eighth top-20 overall finish as a Duck. The Oakley, Calif,. native carded two birdies (#13, 16) and 15 par scores (#1-12, 14-15, 17), and for the second straight day had only one over-par hole – a bogey on the 18th.
Sophomore Avery Sills (45th-tie, 78-75-73-226) posted her second straight career-low round in her first tourney appearance on the team and second overall as a collegian after her debut as an individual last spring.
Senior Kendra Little (74-70-83-227) followed in a tie for 49th place, and senior Monika Graf rounded out UO's scoring Wednesday with her final round 76.
Glancing at Wednesday's other scorecards, Graf and Sills claimed three birdies and Little had one.
Overall for the tourney, Dyer ended with 13 birdies, and other tourney birdie counts follow: Edwards (10), Little (8), Graf (6) and Sills (5)
Overall on the individual leaderboard, Emily Tubert of Arkansas surrendered a stroke from her pre-round lead (63-68-74-205) but still won by five strokes. Three players tied for second place with final scores of 210 – Martina Gavier of Kent State (70-68-72), Corinna Rees of Arkansas (74-67-69) and Kelli Shean of Arkansas (70-67-73).
