
Edwards Paces No. 27 Ducks in Pac-10 / SEC Challenge Opener

STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 27 University of Oregon women's golf team stood in 16th place after the opening round of the Pac-10 / SEC Challenge Friday at the Stanford Golf Course.
Oregon shot a 23-over score of 307 on the par-71 course that welcomed seven top-10 teams among the 17 ranked top 40 this week by Golfstat.
No. 5 UCLA was the closest team to breaking par with its one-over 285 Friday to pace the 21-team field. No. 13 Arizona and No. 26 Auburn followed one stroke back in a tie for second place (286), one stroke ahead of No. 30 Washington (fourth, 287).
Individually for UO, junior Ashley Edwards tied for 29th overall with a two-over 73, and led UO for the third time this season and 11th time in her career. Glancing at her scorecard, she shot three birdies (on holes #6-7, 15), 10 par scores (#3, 5, 8, 10-14, 16-17), and five bogeys (#1-2, 4, 9, 18).
Freshman Rapahaela Dyer and senior Kendra Little followed in a tie for 59th place with their five-over scores of 76; freshman Avery Sills (94th, 82) scored for UO for the third straight round; and senior Monika Graf rounded out the Duck contingent (103rd-t, 85).
Overall on the individual leaderboard, California's Joanne Lee shot a six-under 65 to lead the 108-player field that featured seven players ranked top 10 nationally this week. Vanderbilt's Marina Alex followed one stroke back (65), and Auburn's Cydney Clanton stood third with her three-under 68.
Looking ahead, the first tee time for Saturday's second round of the three-round, three-day event is set for 7:30 a.m. Sunday's finale begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
