Skowronski and Smatova Claim USAFA Doubles Title
10/03/10 | Women's Tennis
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Patricia Skowronski capped her impressive tournament by teaming with Pavlina Smatova to claim doubles title for the Oregon women's tennis team at the USAFA Invitational on Sunday.
The duo concluded their 4-0 weekend with an 8-5 victory over UNC-Greensboro's Alex Whitehead and Stephanie Macfarlane in the top flight doubles final.
Skowronski also competed in the Delta-4 singles final, but fell to Colorado's Michaela Jensen (1-6, 3-6)
The Ducks also had two more doubles teams win their matches on Sunday. Molly McDevitt and Siobhan Cavan won an 8-5 decision over UNC-Greensboro's Devon Sutherland and Eastern Michigan's Marcela Rivero to claim third place in the fourth flight while Trudie du Toit and Rabea Stueckemann won the second flight consolation final with an 8-3 win over Eastern Michigan's Xu Chang and Mariya Toncheva.
“ Pavlina and Patricia played great all weekend,” head coach Paul Reber said. “They capped off the tournament well for us. All three doubles teams did a nice job today. However, I was not happy with how we competed in singles, but I think we learned a lot from it. The experience from this tournament will make us tougher in the long run.”
UO will be back in action on Oct. 22,when it heads to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional.
