BOISE, Idaho – Oregon outlasted Boise State thanks to help from its bench in an 80-64 victory over the Broncos at Taco Bell Arena on Friday night.
Oregon now improves to 6-1 on the season, while Boise State falls to 5-3.
The Ducks' bench outscored the Broncos 29-9, and helped UO erase an early second-half deficit.
“The answer to this game that we didn't have a year ago was people coming off the bench,” head coach Paul Westhead said.
Junior forward Amanda Johnson led Oregon with her fourth double-double of the season, scoring a team-high 15 points and adding 12 rebounds.
As the Broncos began to foul with 1:24 remaining in the game and UO leading 73-63, Johnson was sent to the line four times, making 7-of-8 opportunities.
Junior Jasmin Holliday fell just one rebound short of a double-double with 12 points and nine boards, while Nia Jackson, who fouled out with 1:27 to go, scored 10 points and added a game-high four assists.
Junior guard Kristi Fallin came off the bench to chip in 12 points, five rebounds and two steals in 21 minutes of action.
Boise State used a 10-2 run to open up the second half, taking a 44-41 lead with 17:49 remaining after Bronco guard Kati Isham knocked down one of her three 3-pointers on the night.
Oregon took a quick timeout and responded with a 10-0 run of its own, with a three-point play from Jackson, a 3-pointer from Johnson, and a coast-to-coast lay-in off a rebound from Laura Stanulis.
The Broncos would come no closer than six points the rest of the way as UO outscored the Broncos 18-10 in the paint in the second half, and scored eight points off Boise State turnovers in the final 20 minutes.
The Broncos were led by Janie Bos, who posted game highs with 19 points and 13 rebounds. The senior forward was limited to four points and three rebounds in the second half after recording 15 points and 10 rebounds, playing all 20 minutes of the first half.
Isham added 17 points for Boise, while Heather Pilcher chipped in nine.
The Ducks shot 39.4 percent (28-of-71) from the floor, and outrebounded Boise State 46-41, including 19 offensive boards.
The Broncos turned the ball over 18 times, and shot 37.7 (23-of-61) from the floor.
Oregon is now an undefeated 3-0 on the road as UO takes a 10-day break for final week.
“You always want more,” Westhead said of his club's 6-1 record. “But I am particularly happy when we play three road games and we win all three. The road is never easy.”
Oregon went into halftime with a 39-34 lead thanks to Johnson's 3-pointer at the buzzer. The Ducks had a 10-point lead, 24-14, after Ariel Thomas turned a steal into a lay-up, but Boise State continued to chip away.
The Broncos finally pulled even, 31-31, after an 8-0 run, but Fallin, who led the Ducks with 10 points at the half, quickly scored as Oregon regained the lead.
Bos was a menace for Oregon to deal with, recording a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds in the first 20 minutes.
