EUGENE - The No. 25 University of Oregon softball team (21-5) ran its winning streak to eight games with a 5-3 win over Seattle (2-18) in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader at Howe Field.
Sophomore Samantha Skillingstad (7-3) struck out nine batters, walked two, allowed three hits, and all three of her runs allowed were unearned.
Sophomore Mikayla Endicott relieved her in the sixth inning, and struck out one, walked none and gave up two hits.
Junior Brittany Rumfelt picked up her league-leading second save of the season for her 0.2 innings to wrap up the game, and struck out two, walked one and yielded no hits.
In the first inning, freshman right fielder Samantha Pappas hit a two-out single and scored on a double by junior first baseman Monique Fuiava - her team-high seventh of the season.
UO added four more runs in the fifth inning on a pinch-hit RBI single by senior Carlyn Re, a sacrifice fly by Fuiava, and a pair of wild pitches that scored runners from third base.
For Seattle, starter Hannah Klein (1-4) pitched the opening four innings, struck out one, walked two, allowed five hits, and all four of her runs allowed were earned. Reliever Kelsey Reynolds pitched the final two innings, had no strikeouts, walked two, and her lone run allowed was earned.
At the plate for the visitors, Redhawk leadoff hitter Katie Antich went 2-for-4, and three other batters hit safely.
