
Ducks Rewrite Record in 19-0 Win vs. Idaho State

EUGENE - University of Oregon freshman right fielder Samantha Pappas drilled her first career grand slam in Friday's 19-0 doubleheader opener victory vs. Idaho State (4-14) as the Ducks racked up a school record number of runs.
UO scored multiple runs in all four innings that it batted with two runs in the first, five in the second, eight in the third and four in the fourth. Its third double-digit run tally of '10 bettered the previous school mark from a 17-2 win over Rutgers in 1999.
Junior starter and left-hander Brittany Rumfelt (5-0) kept her record perfect after she struck out six, walked none and gave up three hits in her three innings of duty. Sophomore Mikayla Endicott worked the final two innings, struck out three, walked one and allowed one hit.
Pappas' second-inning round-tripper off the right field scoreboard marked her eighth of the season, and her five RBIs was a team season high and 10th-most in a game in Duck history.
The Spokane, Wash,. native also accounted for one of UO's three extra-base hits with the others doubles by junior catcher Ashley Kivett and freshman center fielder Allie Burger.
Overall for UO, eight players stroked hits, including two with multiple hits - junior designated player/catcher Kaitlin Vitek (2-for-4, 2 RBI), Ashley Kivett (2-for-3, 2 RBI) and junior third baseman Cortney Kivett (2-for-3, 1 RBI).
Other Ducks that hit safely included Burger (1-for-4, 2 RBI), Pappas (1-for-2, 5 RBI), freshman second baseman Kaylan Howard (1-for-2), and senior left fielder Shelley Deadmond (1-for-3, 2 RBI).
Idaho State starting pitcher Kandis Clesson (3-10) worked the first three innings, allowed nine hits, eight of her 13 runs runs allowed were earned, struck out none and walked three. Reliever Nora Maschue pitched the final inning, struck out one, walked six, yielded two hits and five of her six runs allowed were earned.
At the plate, Bengal right fielder Desirae Hoffman went 2-for-3, and two others hit safely.
