
Women?s 4x100, 4x400 Squads Advance at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Oregon's women's 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams advanced to their respective finals, while the distance medley relay squad posted a solid runner-up finish Thursday at the Penn Relays at Franklin Field.
The women's 4x100 meter relay team of Mandy White, Amber Purvis, Keshia Baker and Jamesha Youngblood won its heat in 44.46 to advance to Friday's championship final. The Ducks' time was the seventh-fastest overall on Thursday.
Other teams advancing to the final included Texas A&M (43.13), Louisiana State (43.25), University of Technology from Kingston, Jamaica (44.04), Auburn (44.12), Florida State (44.30), South Carolina (44.41) and Georgetown (44.69).
The 4x400 meter squad, consisting of Youngblood, Michele Williams, Alexandria Davidson and Purvis took second in its heat in a season-best 3:36.12. Texas A&M won the heat in 3:33.06.
Oregon's time was the seventh fastest on Thursday and also ranked as the fifth-best in school history. It was the Ducks' fastest 4x400 in three years.
Joining Oregon and Texas A&M in the Saturday's championship final will be University of Technology (3:32.81), Texas (3:33.54), Arkansas (3:34.03), Louisiana State (3:34.85), Penn State (3:35.08) and Auburn (3:37.10).
The Ducks held off the Bayou Tigers to win the 2010 NCAA Indoor 4x400 relay title in March at Fayetteville, Ark.
Oregon also nabbed a second-place finish in the women's distance medley relay. Tennessee won in 10:54.65, with the Ducks next at 11:02.85 and Villanova third at 11:07.42. The race was a repeat of the 2010 NCAA Indoor Championships where the Volunteers nipped Oregon by less than a second.
Splits for the Ducks included Jordan Hasay's 3:23.32 1,200 meters, Baker's blistering 51.25 400, Anne Kesselring's 2:06.21 800 and Nicole Blood's 4:42.07 1,600.
Junior Claire Michel took second in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase in 10:18.22. Sarah Pease of Indiana won the race in 10:61.51.
On Friday, Oregon's men get into the action with the distance medley relay. Other relays for the Ducks on Friday include the women's 4x1,500 meters and the women's 4x200 meters, in addition to the championship final of the women's 4x100. Also on Friday, sophomores Lyndsay Pearson and Rebecca Rhodes will be competing in the qualifying heats of the women's 100 meter hurdles.
