EUGENE - Returning national runner-up and No. 4 California (16-2, 6-2) won its 14th match this season via a sweep in front of a Duck record crowd of 6,210 Friday night in Eugene.

In the 25-23, 25-22, 25-12 decision, No. 15 Oregon (12-3, 5-2) hit a season-low .042, and was further stymied by 18 blocks by the Bears.

On the bright side, UO demolished its previous home school record crowd of 3,817 from its 2008 contest vs. Washington. Altogether, the Ducks have now welcomed 13 of the school's 19 largest crowds in school history during the tenure of seventh-year head coach Jim Moore.

"This was a fabulous environment to be a part of tonight," Moore said, "so it was disappointing that we couldn't play better. I thought Cal played really well, while no one had a great match for us, at least offensively."

For Oregon, redshirt junior outside hitter Alaina Bergsma's 13 kills led the team category for the 12th time this year, and the Chandler, Ariz., native claimed her third Duck double-double with her 10 digs.

Sophomore setter Lauren Plum finished with a career-high 19 digs, to go along with 26 assists and two blocks.

Also on defense, junior libero Haley Jacob ended with 12 digs, while Plum, junior outside hitter Katherine Fischer, sophomore middle blocker Ariana Williams and freshman middle blocker Savannah Paffen all had two blocks.

At the service line, UO held its lone advantage - a 5-0 edge in aces - thanks to a pair each by Bergsma and junior defensive specialist Kellie Kawasaki. The Ducks also only made two service errors, compared with five for Cal (the third league rival to end without an ace and have +5 errors this season).

"Haley played exceptionally well early," Moore said, "and Kellie had some great moments. We knew Cal could dig balls, but we needed to keep swinging. We didn't change our shots, and they took some things away, too."

Otherwise, last year's conference co-champion Cal held momentum much of the match on both sides of the net.

Offensively, it hit .269 and featured three starters with +.300 totals - All-America senior Tarah Murrey (19 kills, .340), returning All-America honorable mention Correy Johnson (7 kills, .333) and junior middle hitter Kat Brown (4 kills, .500).

Other Cal leaders included junior setter Elly Barrett (37 assists), junior middle hitter and All-Region pick Shannon Hawari (eight blocks) and junior libero Robin Rostratter (24 digs).

Murrey particularly disrupted the Ducks with her personal season league high in kills (19), aces (2) and blocks (5), and a double-double courtesy of her 10 digs

On defense, the Bears notched their third +10-block effort of the season after previous marks vs. UCLA (15) and Stanford (11). Besides Hawari, three others ended with five or more blocks - Kat Brown (7), Johnson (5) and Murrey (5).

In other action around the Pac-12 Friday, No. 3 Washington swept Colorado at home, Utah beat WSU, 3-1, in Pullman; No. 7 Stanford won 3-1 in Corvallis after losing the first set; and No. 2 UCLA and No. 5 USC swept ASU and Arizona in the desert, respectively.

Looking ahead, UO welcomes NO. 7 Stanford (11-3, 5-3) Saturday night for a 7 p.m. match. Fans that show their Bi-Mart card at the ticket window will get a free ticket to the Washington State match in two weeks (Friday, 10/21) for each Stanford ticket bought.

"We gotta move on," Moore said. "It's over, and we need to learn from this. At Washington last week, we hit well and put balls down, but didn't serve and pass - tonight it was reverse."
