03/05/11 | Women's Tennis
TUCSON, Ariz. – Pavlina Smatova snapped her personal two-match skid in singles play, but the rest of the Oregon women's tennis team was unable to follow suit in a 6-1 loss to No. 26 Arizona on Friday.
The loss is Oregon's (6-5, 0-3 Pac-10) third-straight since opening league play.
Smatova improved to 7-4 in duals and 15-9 overall in singles play. The No. 100 player in the country won a three-set battle with Sarah Landsman (6-3, 3-6, 10-8).
The Ducks' No. 2 doubles team of Julia Metzger and Trudie du Toit also recorded a victory on the day, dispatching the Wildcats' duo of Kim Stubbe and Lacey Smyth. UA still took the doubles point, however, as its No. 67 pairing of Natasha Marks and Landsman sent Smatova and Patricia Skowronski to their third-straight loss (8-5) while Jane Huh and Susan Mc Rann downed Rabea Stuckemann and Pascale Neubert (8-2).
The Wildcats won No. 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 singles in straight sets to clinch the dual win, though the No. 6 match between Huh and Lana Buttner went to a tiebreaker before Huh ultimately pulled out the match (6-3, 7-6 [8-6])
