Sun Devils Send Ducks to Fourth-Straight Loss
03/06/11 | Women's Tennis
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Oregon women's tennis team managed two upset victories on the day, but it wasn't enough to overcome No. 35 Arizona State in a 6-1 loss on Saturday.
The Ducks fall to 6-6 on the season and 0-4 in Pac-10 play.
Julia Metzger and Trudie du Toit picked up their second doubles victory of the weekend at the No. 2 spot by upsetting ASU's pairing of Ashlee Brown and Sianna Simmons (No. 46 nationally) 8-3. The Sun Devils still took the doubles point by getting wins at the No. 1 and 3 positions with No. 39 Micaela Hein and Kelcy McKenna downing Pavlina Smatova and Patricia Skowronski in a tight, 8-6, decision while Jacqueline Cako and Michelle Brycki downed Rabea Stuckemann and Pascale Neubert, 8-2.
The highlight of singles play was Pascale Neubert's win over No. 117 Michelle Brycki at the No. 5 spot. Neubert eked out a 6-4 win in the first set before Brycki retired from the match, providing the Ducks with their lone point of the day.
ASU took the other five singles matches in straight sets to secure the dual win.
Saturday's dual concluded the Ducks' eight-match road trip. Oregon returns to the court on March 11 when it hosts Washington.
