SALT LAKE CITY – The No. 15 University of Oregon volleyball team (11-1, 4-0) continued its unbeaten conference run Saturday night with a 3-0 win at Utah (6-8, 1-4).

At the Utes' Crimson Court, UO rolled to a 25-19, 25-15, 25-21 decision for its ninth win via sweep the last 10 matches, and also remain as the only unbeaten league team in the conference.

On defense, Oregon held an opponent without an ace for the fifth time this year while racking up six aces to go alone with only one service error (compared with seven for Utah).

The Ducks also and held notable edges Saturday in kills (41-29) and assists (39-27) – categories it led the conference in this week - and likewise topped comparisons for hitting (.162-.078) and digs (47-29). That Utah hitting mark was the second-lowest by a Duck foe in 2011 and fourth straight sub-.200 mark by a league foe.

Offensively, the Oregon offense relied on a balanced attack as five players ended with between 7-9 kills each.

Junior middle blocker Milica Krstojevic led the hitting column (.778), her seven kills was one shy of her season best, and the first-year Duck was errorless on her nine attempts. On defense, she added four blocks – one off her team season high – and led the team in the column for the third time in 2011.

Sophomore middle blocker Ariana Williams added a .353 hitting mark and two blocks, and paced the kills column (9-tied) with junior outside hitter Alaina Bergsma.

Other Ducks with similar kill counts included junior and freshman outside hitters Katherine Fischer (8) and Liz Brenner (7). Fischer added a team-season high four aces – her first match with multiple aces this year.

Junior libero Haley Jacob paced the digs column (11) for the seventh time this year, two more than Fischer and Plum who each had nine. The latter player added 38 assists – one shy of her season high for a three-set match (39 at Delaware).

“Our serving was good tonight,” Oregon head coach Jim Moore said, “and Katherine was ridiculously good – not only with her aces but on all her serves. Our defense was good, and Haley directed us well in serve receive. Milica boosted us offensively, but team-wise we didn't hit as well as we have been. We can't have off nights like that and rely solely on our serving and passing.”

In the first set, UO used three and four-point runs to go up 8-2, and held a three-point lead or more the remainder of the set. Utah's best stretch was a 6-1 answer that narrowed it to 15-12 at mid-set. However, UO went back up 20-15 on a pair of Brenner kills, one each by Krstojevic and Williams and an ace by freshman Shellsy Ashen on its way to a 25-19 outcome.

Oregon used a similar formula early in the second set to go up 8-2, boosted by four Ute attack error errors, a Bergsma ace, and two kills by Williams and another by Brenner. Utah pulled within four points at 11-7, but a 6-1 Duck run resulted in a 17-8 lead en route to the 25-15 final score.

In the third set, Utah took its first multi-point lead of the match at 8-6, then staked its biggest advantage at 12-7 on a kill by Erin Redd. UO battled right back to tie it, 12-12, thanks to a pair of aces and kill from Fischer, a block by Krstojevic and Brenner, and another Utah attack error. The two teams were tied twice more at 14-14 and 18-18, but UO posted a five-point run after the latter score to go up, 23-18, thanks to two more blocks by Krstojevic. The Bosnian addition added a kill and block to end the match with a 25-21 final set.

Utah, which entered the week leading the league in blocks (3.02 per set), ended with 15.5 blocks Saturday, while UO racked up seven – one off its season high (8 vs. Arizona).

Utah category leaders included Erin Redd (12 kills, .450, 14.5 points), Danielle Killpack (7 blocks), Abby Simmons (14 assists) and Nikki Sim (8 digs).

All-time in the series vs. the Utes, UO now leads 6-3, and is 3-0 under seventh-year head coach Jim Moore after 3-1 wins in 2008 and '09.

Next week, the Ducks have another weekend on the road at No. 4 Washington and Washington State, Friday-Saturday September 30-October 1.

Looking ahead two weeks, Duck fans will want to mark their calendars for 7 p.m. home matches against No. 1 California and No. 2 Stanford on Friday-Saturday, October 7-8 at Matthew Knight Arena.
