PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - The No. 19 University of Oregon softball team (7-2) opened final day action in the Cathedral City Classic with a 7-1 win Sunday over returning WAC champion New Mexico State (11-5).

Junior pitcher Jessica Moore threw her fifth complete game of the season needing only 86 pitches. The All-Pac-12 returnee from Sutter, Calif., struck out four, walked none, scattered five hits, and no earned runs.

At the plate for UO, sophomore catcher Courtney Ceo and freshman Janie Takeda each went 3-for-4, and senior designated player Christie Nieto added a 2-for-3 morning at the plate.

After the Aggies took a 1-0 lead on a two-out single in the second inning, UO scored the game's remaining seven runs from the third through seventh innings.

In the third, a pair of lead-off singles by Ceo and Takeda, and walk by sophomore first baseman Kailee Cuico was followed by a two-run single by Kaylan Howard that marked her team-best third game-winning RBI of the season. Senior designated player Christie Nieto added an RBI single the next at-bat.

In the fourth, Takeda added an RBI single, and two more runs came across in the fifth on the first collegiate hit by freshman third baseman Jamie Rae Sullivan. In the seventh, UO scored its final run on an infield ground-out by freshman pinch hitter Hannah Melick after Nieto and Pappas walked to open the inning.

NMSU starter Sydney Willard (4-1) suffered her first loss of the year, and in her three innings, struck out none, walked two, allowed six hits, and all three runs yielded were earned.

The Aggies used their other four pitchers in the game's remainder, and together they allowed five hits, struck out one, walked three and three of their four runs allowed were earned.

At the plate, five Aggies garnered single hits.

Oregon's win Sunday morning was the third of the tourney vs. a 2011 NCAA tournament team after UO beat regional finalist and No. 22 Nebraska (4-2) and World Series advancer and No. 21 Oklahoma State Friday (8-0).

Looking ahead, UO has one more tourney game left immediately after vs. Cal Poly.
